The tallest man in medical history for whom there is irrefutable evidence is Robert Pershing Wadlow. He was born at Alton, Illinois on February 22, 1918, and when he was last measured on June 27, 1940, was found to be 2.72 m (8 ft 11.1 in) tall. He died July 15, 1940 at age 22. At the age of 13 he was already 7′4″ he was declared the worlds biggest Boy Scout. Before his death he was a shoe salesman and would leave his size 37 shoes behind at the stores he sold to.
